Cypress, CA – Cypress College has a new Detailer Instructor! Mr. Bobby Tamariz is the newest member in the
Automotive Collision Repair Department. Mr. Tamariz has been in the automotive industry as a
child while working with his father in Northern California. Early mornings, no summer fun, he
worked hard at a very young age and learned how to apply himself within the automotive paint
industry. He has worked in well known body shops such as Vaca Valley Auto Body in Vacaville
Ca as a head painter. In his early 30s he relocated to Southern California for a breath of fresh
air. He took a direct approach in life and joined the Cypress College Automotive Collision Repair
program. He then discovered detailing and took his knowledge of paint history and applied it to
detailing. Mr. Tamariz was so good at explaining and showing students, he found a love of
teaching. In 2011 he then became an assistant in the department, he would open the
department for the instructors, assist students who needed a little extra help, and make sure
students cleaned up shop before the next class. And while attending the college, Mr. Tamariz
started his own detailing company called BGT Professional Detailing, now located in Upland Ca.
There are very few people in this world who can determine which classic car has been repainted
or has original lacquer paint from the 50’s- 70’s. Because of this he was able to professionally
approach polishing a range of vintage to today’s vehicles. With continuing to educate himself
with today’s technology Mr. Tamariz is now educating new generations of detailers at Cypress
College and at his detailing facility.

Mr. Tamariz has maintained great relationships with his past instructors. For instance, Mr. Dan
Snook who was then head of the department was a guest at Mr. Tamariz’s wedding in 2015 and
Mr. Ed Terwilliger (Mr.T) became Mr. Tamariz’s greatest mentor in detailing. Mr. T introduced Mr.
Tamariz to some of the most talented detailers and to this day both share the passion and love
of detailing.

Due to Mr. Tamariz becoming I-CAR GOLD certified from the college, still active in the detailing
industry, and with great relations it was obvious Mr. Tamariz was the next runner up to
respectfully replace Mr. T’s dedicated position. And with this great honor, Mr. Tamariz accepted
the position as the new detail instructor. He will continue the great legacy Mr. T has started and
with Mr. Tamariz’s past knowledge of paint history the department has potential to become
something bigger!
